At a recent wedding at the Fennes in Bocking, Essex, we were lucky enough to have a few minutes to spend taking photos of a rather lovely old Rolls Royce. I really love those old cars, but I’m not sure I’d like to drive one in our current sub-zero weather

This is really just a quick tip, as wedding photographers we’ve tried lots and lots of different methods to try and make our grooms feel relaxed in front of the camera. One of the best tips is to drag over one of his ushers to stand just over your shoulder and get him to do the hard job of getting the groom to laugh (which will usually involve a rude joke or two) works a treat.

Its not every day that we get to use a venue that has an awesome bright pink carpeted spiral staircase. Which made for a nice twist on the usual group shot. Mind you it still took a whole heap of faffing to set the shot up

We’re always looking for different ways to add a twist to the usual wedding photos. This is one we don’t really get a chance to use very often but it can produce some awesome effects.

Adding a Tilt-Shift effect to a photo can produce a dramatic impression of a miniature model in some cases, but it requires an elevated viewpoint and a nice wide angle of view. In this particular case we were able to get into a high up viewing gallery which gave a great perspective on the whole church. Fun to apply odd the odd photo in a wedding portfolio.

Wedding Photography (much like fashion) changes style from season to season (ok maybe not as quickly as they change the styles in H&M but you get the general idea, I’ve still not figured out why they insist on getting rid of all the flip-flops and putting out the winter jackets in mid July… but I digress…)

Every year we try and sit down and look at the growing trends in wedding photography, some times we find were right on the pulse, and some times we feel like we need to tweek our style and post processing a bit.

Looking forward to next year it seems a lot of the retro 70′s style thats currently around will be pushing it’s way into more of the main stream wedding photography. So currently looking forward to adding a little bit of cross processing and taking down the Hue on a few of the colours to push that slightly faded, warm colour scheme.

Group shots could also take a bit of a vintage twist with the use of textiles draped and used as backgrounds.  And I’m guessing that the trendy/quirky/Rock and Roll couple shots will be requested more by the bride and groom, which will make it a lot more fun for us photographers :)

Surrey offers some of the most spectacular venues for wedding photography. One of our favourite is Hampton Court House which is set in seven acres of 18th Century gardens, Hampton Court House is only 30 mins from London making it an ideal out-of-town escape. Oddly enough it operates as a school during the working week (a bit of a step up from my old 70′s style secondary school back home)

The gardens are large with palm trees, rabbits, swans and herons and a rather nice lake. All making for some great photo opportunities. The house is surrounded on all sides by parkland and has a grand double height entrance hall, glass conservatory (that lets in lots of nice diffused light) and imposing dining hall.

Being wedding photographers we tend to cover alot of different areas of Surrey and Essex but I always come back to thinking that Hampton Court House is one of the coolest we get to cover.

Bristol offers some awesome opportunities for great street photography. It’s a really vibrant town with a good mix of the old and new which can make for some stunning and often quirky shots.

On this particular occasion we followed the bride from Bristol Register office through a bustling market down to the river side where they boarded a floating restaurant for their reception.

BTW. crossing the road backwards whilst looking through a camera is a bit tricky/foolhardy
